Catholic Bishops from the Anglophone and Franco-phone West-African countries are expected to set up a United Catholic body to propel the spiritual and social development of the sub-region.
The Archbishop of Abuja Catholic Diocese and President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, His Grace, Reverend John Onaiyekan, disclosed this to Radio Nigeria in Abuja while inspecting the venue of the Conference at the ECOWAS Secretariat Asokoro.
Archbishop Onaiyekan, said issues to be during the conference, include poverty, inter-religious dialogue, political and economic instability, peaceful co-existence and HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Commenting on the expected agenda to be addressed at the conference, the Secretary General of the West African Catholic Bishop Conference and the Chairman, Organising Sub-committee of the Conference, Reverend Father Williams Avenya said the Anglophone and the Franco-phone West African countries would come together as a single body and form a high powered Executive Committee to be headed by a President and Secretary-General, to pilot the activities of the conference.
The Conference is to be declared opened by Vice President Goodluck Jonathan.
