DG of LACN Advocates translation of constitution into Local Languages

The Director General of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Mrs Laetitia Akinlami says the translation of the constitution into Local Languages will reduce crime in the country.

Mrs Akinlami stated this at the end of a three day official visit to Keffi and Lafia prisons in Nasarawa State.

The Director General called on traditional rulers to organise a forum to enlighten their wards in Local dialects on the need to respect the rule of law.

She regretted that some of the inmates in the prisons pleaded guilty to their charges under duress.

Mrs Akinlami urged inmates whose fines would be paid by the council to reciprocate the gesture by turning a new leaf after their discharge.

Correspondent reports that fines for sixty inmates are to be paid by the council while twenty others awaiting trial were assigned lawyers to defend them.
