Prof Iwu says privatizing the NIMC will jeopardise nation’s security

INEC says privatizing the National Identity Management Commission will endanger the nation’s security.

The Chairman of INEC, Professor Maurice Iwu stated this when the Management of the National Identity Card with biometrics was an issue that must not be outsourced because of its security implications.

The INEC Chairman advised the Management of National Identity Management Commission to work towards the harmonisation of the various identity card schemes in the Country.

He also urged the National Identity Management Commission to effect the integration of the multiple identification and registration systems.
Earlier, the Director General of the NIMC, Mr Chris Onyemenam said his team was in INEC to see how the two Commissions could collaborate to have a common data base.
