Senate set to review 1999 constitution

The National Assembly is to constitute a review committee on the amendment of the 1999 constitution.

Senate President, David Mark in a statement entitled “our expectations in 2008”, issued in Abuja said the committee would partner with State Assemblies in conformity with the provisions of the constitution.

Senator Mark assured Nigerians that the 2008 budget would be passed before the end of this month and that the oversight functions of the National Assembly would be strengthened.

He also expressed the determination of the National Assembly to be more responsive to the yearnings of Nigerians by addressing recurrent emerging needs of the people through the enactment of laws that would provide the enabling environment for economic growth.
