Customs clears use of bangers not on prohibition list

Ceremonial explosive such as bangers and fireworks are not on the prohibition list of the Nigeria customs service.

Fireworks and bangers have been part of major celebrations during Christmas and New Year and had often raised concern on safety.

The spokesman for the service, Mr. Wale Adeniyi told newsmen in Abuja that only the Nigerian Police could license companies to import such products.

He said the service impounded some bangers and fireworks last year from companies that were not licensed by the police.

When contacted the FCT Police command said that no one was arrested for using the items during the festive period. The spokesman, Mr. Ahmed Musa however said the use of bangers was illegal.
