Ali Apologizes over Obasanjo’s govt.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmadu Ali on Friday pleaded with Nigerians to forgive the immediate past President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, “in any way he may have wronged the nation.”

Ali who spoke in Lagos during the party’s unity rally described Obasanjo's eight-year rule as positive and the best in the country’s history, adding that Obasanjo is human and should be forgiven for whatever wrong he might have committed while in office.

The rally also witnessed the defection of two former deputy governors of the state, Alhaji Rafiu Jafojo and Otunba Olufemi Pedro, into the PDP fold.
Pedro was given the PDP paraphernalia and presented to party members by Ali at the unity rally held at Sky power Club, Ikeja. Pedro described his new party as the "new platform for service."
Pedro, who was the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in last April's election in Lagos, defected to the PDP with many members and supporters of his former party, including LP’s state executive council led by Engineer Olanrewaju Dada.

He said his decision to pitch his tent with PDP was taken after months of prayers, soul-searching and wide consultations, "including crucial ones with the leaders of a robust party who see me as an asset and an embodiment of service."

He added that a robust platform like PDP was needed to secure political power through which a government could be formed in order to implement good programmes.
Pedro revealed that many discouraged him from continuing in politics because of his travails as a result of his decision to run for the governorship of Lagos State.

At the rally to receive Pedro and other new entrants were the PDP National Working Committee members such as Chief Olabode George, Chief Yinka Omilani, Chairman of Lagos PDP, Bayo Williams and the newly appointed Minister of State for Agriculture, Demola Seriki.
Ali, along with other national and state officials of the party, also warmly received the former National Woman Leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Mrs. Remi Omisore, into the PDP.

Olabode George who also spoke at the event said contrary to opinion in some quarters, PDP is united and devoid of crises in Lagos.
He boasted that PDP would win the 2011 governorship election in the state, calling on all the party supporters to make the dream a reality.
He observed that the state missed a lot of good things in the last eight years because it did not belong to the mainstream of Nigerian politics.
