Chief of Naval Staff condemns activities of Merchant Navy Corp

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ganiyu Adekeye has condemned the activities of an organisation called the Merchant Navy Corp.

At a press briefing in Abuja to conclude the fifty-second anniversary of the Nigerian Navy, Vice Admiral Adekeye said the Corp was illegal and does not exist both in law and in fact.

He noted that the organisation broke away from the Genuine Merchant Navy personnel, which was established by the Nigerian Navy.

On the issue of welfare for the Navy personnel the Chief of the Naval Staff said efforts were being made to acquire some barracks and estates for the Naval personnel pending the completion of the Navy Housing Scheme.

Vice Admiral Adekeye also said New Ships, boats, helicopters and Naval Equipment has been purchased to enhance the operations of the Navy.
