Ebonyi Govt revokes N1.5 billion contract

The Ebonyi state government has revoked the one point five billion naira contract for the construction of the 35 kilometres Ezillo-Azuinyaba road,of which the contractor had been paid more than eight hundred million naira.

 

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Paul Okorie announced the revocation at Inyaba in Ebonyi after inspecting the project.

The News Agency of Nigeria – NAN – reports that the contract was awarded to indigenous company in 2001 at the cost of N938 million and reviewed upward to one point two billion with a completion period of twenty- four months.

The Commissioner said that, the job already done would be evaluated to ascertain who owes who.

Mr. Okorie said he visited the site in November 2007 and warned the contractor on the dangers of not adhering to the contractual agreement.

He expressed regret that, of the thirty five kilometres road, the contractor had only laid asphalt on five kilometres since 2001.
