Edo State Govt earmarks N340m to tackle erosion problems
The Edo State government has earmarked three-hundred- and forty million naira to tackle erosion problems claiming the lives of many people and properties in Okpesun Area of the state.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists on inspection of major projects in the state, Governor Oserheimen Osunbor explained that this became necessary since the intervention by the Federal Government was yet to be implemented.
The Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Imasuen, who is in charge of the project speaks on efforts by the state and the World Bank to control erosion which is threatening to cut-off major express ways and has sacked many buildings including the popular Queen Ede Secondary School in Okpesun.
To alleviate poverty and youth restiveness, the state government is to spend seventy-one million naira in employing young people across the state to engage in a programme on communal farming involving four hundred hectares of land.
Mrs Uwa Osunbor is the special adviser on Farm Development and Communal Farming.
The journalists assessed the level of work done at some of the project sites including the permanent site of the State Water Board, the Rural Electrification Project in Akoko-Edo and about forty kilometres of new roads constructed by the administration in the past one year.
