Dariye Removes Acting Chief Judge, Impeachment Against Him Resumes
Newly reinstated governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye sacked the state chief judge on Monday and on Tuesday the state legislators began moves to impeach Dariye again.
The Plateau State Acting Chief Judge Justice Lazarus Dakyen was relieved of his appointment and former Chief Judge Justice Sambo Atsi was re-appointed as the Chief Judge of the State, according to a statement by the Plateau State Government.
Justice Atsi was sacked in 2004 by Governor Joshua Dariye and had been in court challenging his removal.
His re-appointment is expected to bring to an end the protracted legal battle between him and the government over his removal.
However, on Tuesday the Speaker of the House said that 14 members have signed an impeachment notice which has been delivered to the Clerk of the House but which could not be served on the Governor because Tuesday was a public holiday marking Workers Day in Nigeria.
Governor has stated on resumption of office following his reinstatement by the Supreme Court that all appointments made in his absence were nullified.
The PDP in Plateau State has called on the House of Assembly not to grant legislative backing to any appointment made by Governor Joshua Dariye.
Chairman of the Party, Mr. Sylvanus Lot who stated this in Jos said doing so would amount to supporting a corrupt government.
He said the Party rejected the dissolution of all structures of the Botmang administration by Governor Dariye.
