Former Minister of Information in the regime of late General Sani Abacha, Chief Ikeobasi Mokelu on Wednesday declared his intention to replace Dr Ahmadu Ali, as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His entrance into the race brings to 14, those aspiring to succeed Ali. Those who have declared their interests include, Chief Dan Ulasi, Dr Sam Egwu and Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
Mokelu listed a five-point agenda of reforming PDP as a political party, adding that his tenure would embrace reconciliation, reformation and rebuild the party's internal structure.
He also said PDP would become formidable if the national enthusiasm generated among some established politicians all over the country at its birth is further developed.
Mokelu, who said PDP cannot behave as if it has no past, said he plans to bring back some of its estranged founding members, who left the party because of perceived political differences.
He also pledged to re-activate party organs and bring back feedback relations from the legislators at all levels, adding that with the experts that he would bring back to the party, the quality of debates would be enriched.
