Social Development is to conduct a survey and analysis on orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in the country.
The Minster of Women Affairs and Social Development Hajia Saudatu Bungudu at News Conference in Abuja said this was to assess the magnitude and prevalence of OVC and enhance their well-being.
The Minster explained that by the 2010, effective mechanism would be put in place to ensure that at least 25% of orphans and other vulnerable children were protected and had access to basic services.
The deputy country representative of UNICEF, Dr. Roberts Lumlin stressed the need to mobilise government, individuals and organisations to give those affected hope and right to life.
Dr. Lumlin pledged UNICEF’s commitment to transforming the lives of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria.
