Social workers to adapt current changes for better service delivery

Social workers have been urged to adapt to current changes and undertake research to enhance their capacity for better service delivery in Nigeria.

 

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Saidatu Usman Bungudu gave the advice in Abuja in a message to the opening of the international social work day in Nigeria.

The Minister who was represented by a deputy Director in the Ministry, Mr. Maijama’a Kwassau said that for social workers to impact positively on the society they must develop their skills.
In an address, the President of the Nigeria Association of social workers, Mr. Alexander Noah said the association was contributing its quota to the health of the nation through persuading individuals to know their HIV/AIDS status.

Mr Alexander Noah, however, noted that for the rural dwellers to be adequately reached government assistance must be sought.

In an interview, the student leader of the Association, Comrade Amidu Latifu Adeniyi urged authorities of higher institutions to introduce more social courses into their curriculum in order to eradicate social problems being faced in campuses.

Correspondent reports that the event features the award to philanthropists who contributed immensely to the association’s welfare.
