Strategic Foreign Policy to assist present administration
A Strategic Foreign Policy is being developed to assist the present administration to achieve its seven point agenda.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Ojo Maduekwe announced this in Abuja on Monday at a news briefing to mark the commencement of fifty years of Nigerian Foreign Service.
He said one of the strategies was the resuscitation of all bilateral agreements to attract investment into Nigeria especially in the non-oil sector.
The Minister explained that the government had adopted what he tagged “Citizenship Diplomacy” as a policy to imbibe the right sense of belonging and pride in Nigerians within and outside the country.
Chief Maduekwe however, said Nigerians must be ready to take responsibility by respecting the law of their countries of residence before they could demand for respect and service.
In his contribution, Nigeria's former Ambassador to Singapore, Mr Chike Anigbo said it was wrong for anybody to accuse the Federal Government of not acting promptly to save the life of Tochukwu Iwuchukwu who was executed for drug trafficking in Singapore.
Mr Anigbo said Nigerians were aware of the zero-tolerance of Singapore for drug and would not even spare the lives of her citizens who engaged in such crime.
Mr Anigbo urged Nigerians to assists in redeeming Nigeria's image by avoiding any criminal act.
Correspondent reports that the weeklong celebration is featuring exhibitions, lecture and symposium to assess the Nigerian Foreign Service in the last fifty years and projection into the future.
