OATUU partnership forum opens in Abuja

The Second Session of the African
 

Union and the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity, OATUU, partnership forum has opened in Abuja.

The partnership is aimed at deepening the relation between the African Union and Organised Labour at the continental level.

Addressing the opening session, the Minister of Labour, Dr Hassan Lawal, assured the gathering that Nigeria would continue to play pivotal role in giving leadership to Africa.
Director, Citizens and Diaspora Directorate, Dr Jinmi Adisa, who spoke on behalf of the African Union, said the forum was inaugurated last year as part of the transformation agenda of the AU to fully involve the African people in its Affairs.

Also at the occasion, the Secretary General of Organisation of African Trade Union Unity, OATUU, Comrade Hassan Sunmonu said the moral objective of OATUU is to defend the interest of the African people, consolidate and strengthen democracy.

Comrade Sunmonu said there is no alternative to the role of Trade Unions in integration of Africa as is obtainable in the European Union.

Correspondent reports that the three day forum will deliberate on the role of Trade Unions in fast tracking integration in Africa.
