Imo: Governor assures support to Njaba State creation C’ttee

Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State has assured members of the Njaba State Creation Committee that his administration will give total support to the realization of the project.

 

The Governor made the pledge when he received members of the Committee who visited him in Owerri and remarked that the movement was the most viable among all other state creation campaigns.

He announced the creation of Imo New State Committee – INESCO – to assist the main committee which he described as a relief to Ndigbo, but advised the movement to be conscious of dissenting voices.

Earlier in a remark, the chairman of the Committee, Retired Justice C. Alinnor said the proposed state will comprise twelve local government areas in Imo State and one from Anambra State.

Justice Alinnor further disclosed that the proposed state had a land area of one hundred and thirty eight thousand square kilometres and a population of one million, seven hundred and thirty seven thousand, six hundred and fifty two according to the 2006 census.       

Also speaking, a former governor of Anambra State Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju stated that the proposed state would be the most homogenous of all states in Nigeria because the inhabitants speak the same dialect with the same culture and tradition.

Dr Mbadinuju said if created the new state would help develop the area and create more jobs for the people.


Adding his voice, a former governor of Imo State Chief Achike Udenwa said Orlu was among the forty states that was demanded in 1983 and beckoned on Imo State Government to help make it a reality.
