First Lady urges DAFLA to initiate scholarship progs. for indigent Women
Nigerian’s First Lady, Hajia Turai Yar’adua has urged
her colleagues in the organisation of African First Ladies ((DAFLA) to initiate scholarship programmes for indigent Women in their countries.
Hajia Turai told Layiwola Lawal in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia that such a gesture women would enable women to contribute to socio-economic development to contribute.
Hajia Turai who attended a special session on gender violence and discrimination said Women should not see any problem facing them as the end of life but a challenge to succeed.
In his reaction to rampart cases of rape of infants and adolescents by older men, the Director-General of NACA, Professor Babatunde Oshotimehin said the trend was a threat to the campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa.
Professor Osotimehin appealed to African first ladies to assist in domesticating laws that would protect Women and children against harmful practices.
Layiwola Lawal Reports that the African first ladies are continuing their deliberation today with a focus on HIV/AIDS scourge in Africa.
