Police Dairy Update 24/09/09
Today on the programme was the Deputy Force PRO Yemi Ajayi who was on hand to answer questions.
There was no police news, the programme kicked off with pending cases, first was the case of Mr. Emeka Eze who was arrested by SOS CID Lagos since last year, while responding, Mr. Yemi Ajayi said the case was still under investigation.
Thereafter, the phones lines were open, calls came in from Solomon who called in from Abeokuta, wanting to know the latest on the 2007 rationalization interview, he was asked to keep listening to police dairy for information.
Mr. Ndife called in from Anambra; he wants the police to increase the allowance of police officers when they are posted to another zone.
Police diary 17th September, 2009
It’s always a pleasure to welcome you to police diary site on Radio Nigeria website.
Today’s edition had the Deputy Force PRO Mr. Yemi Ajayi as guest. He gave details on some pending cases such as the Oji River case which concerns Mr. Obigwe who had an accident, the PPRO Enugu called into the programme and told listeners that the case is being handled at Ezeagu Division and the owner of the bus has been arrested since the driver is still at large.
As regards Chief Peter Eze who nephew Emeka Eze has been missing since his arrest in Lagos, the Deputy Force PRO said the case is presently at S Squad in Force Headquarters.
More on the pending cases was Christian Ugwukpe who was murdered at Suleja by the police, in response; the Deputy Force PRO said the case is at the Homicide Department of the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The F.C.T PRO called in to give a detailed summery of the Jiwa murder. According to him the police and the family of the deceased had been in constant touch while the investigation is ongoing at the Homicide Unit of the Police Force Headquarters.
Concerning the allegation that zone 9 Umuahia organised a seminar for hoteliers in the eastern region of which failure to pay 15,000 naira their hotels will be shut, the PRO Zone a called in and said the zone was not collecting any money of such as the seminar is being organised by Lawyers Committee of Justice Mission. The police is just organising security, he did not however answer if the directive came from Inspector General of Police.
As regards news from Force Headquarters, the Deputy Force PRO told listeners that the IG of Police is in Lagos to commission bomb disposal equipment and will be speaking to the men and officers of the force.

Police diary 15th September, 2009
Police diary Radio Nigeria’s contributing to security in Nigeria, it’s the programme that brings the listener close to the police.
Today on the update, the Force PRO Emmanuel Ojukwu was around to shed light on the issue of reinstatement as over time there has been lots of enquires on reinstatement.
According to the FPRO restatement is the process of calling back officers who were wrongfully retrenched. After careful considerations of their cases either through internal process or by the ruling of the court, such officers can be reinstated.
The Pending cases taken were that of the missing nephew of Chief Peter Eze, after the boys arrest in Lagos he has since not been seen, the FPRO in response said the case is still been investigated.
The other case was is Oji River case which involved Mrs. Obigwe who had an accident at Oji, the PPRO Enugu was to call in to brief listeners on the latest; he could not call in while the programme was on, God willing on Thursday he will call in.

Welcome to another wonderful time on police diary Update. Today on the programme was police news; the first item was on motorized patrol increase by the police.
Also the police has decided to monitor hot spot, identified across the country.
There was a conference on how to police open places between police and other security experts groups.
The police has also gone into collaboration with principals of secondary schools and it is called social school initiative.
In the news also the IG of police visited Anambra State to address officers and men of the force.
Governor Peter Obi also donated 10 vehicles to enhance the activities of the police.
It was goods news for next of kins of 28 police officers who died in Borno and Yobe states during the Boko Harem Saga.
Lines were opened calls came in from Enugu and Anambra states.
Police Diary Update 080909
Good day and welcome to police update for the 8th day of September 2009.
Today on the programme, the force public relations officer Emmanuel Ojukwu told listeners that the Nigerian police and the United Nations would be having a meeting to seek ways of improving security in Nigeria and other countries.
Pending cases are the Oja-Igbo case in Ibadan which was an sms sent in by one Gbemi complaining of hoodlums and fraudsters who have turned Oja-Igbo into their den. The PPRO Oyo called and said the kingpin of the gang has been arrested and this has led to further arrests. She also said, the area has been raided and rid off such miscreants.
In the case of Emeka Eze, who was reported missing last year after his arrest by SOS CID Ikeja Lagos, the FPRO said the case is still being investigated.
As regards the bribery case at New Layout Enugu, the PPRO Enugu called in and said the case has been referred to SARS Enugu, Aba and Ebonyi.

Police Diary for 01/09/09
Police diary for the 1st of September 2009 kicked off with the Force PRO thanking the general public for coming out last Friday to honour the former IG of Police Mike Okiro who was bade farewell last week Friday.
Next in the news item was the promotion of Mr. Olusegun Ofuntayo of the Nigerian Police to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police. He joined the Force in 1980 and read Zoology.
The anchor Kelvin Ugwu asked the FPRO, what advice he had for Nigerians as we begin the “ember months” as it is referred to in local parlance and he said, Nigerians should be careful in their dealings, watch vehicles they ‘board’.
Text messages where now taken, a text regarding tinted glass, the force PRO said its only the IG that has the right to give permit, and as it is now the new IG of Police is not giving permit to that effect. Anyone with tinted glass should endeavour to change the glasses or it will be off the road.
The pending cases were also looked into such as the Obigwe’s in Enugu concerning a traffic accident involving Mrs. Obigwe, the force PRO of Enugu called and he said that the investigation was still in progress.
In the same vane the force PRO Abuja called in to inform listeners that the FCT has beefed up security in Abuja, and all motorists and traffic offenders should take note.
Further in the programme the phone were open, calls came in from Abuja from Michael Ahmed, Mazi Onife from Enugu and others.

Police Diary for 25th August
The programme started today on a sad note with the FPRO announcing the death of two top Officers, CP Shehu I – Othman CP Fed OPS and DC Joshua Mumbo DC OPS FCT.
The Force Public Relations Officer also announced the release of the results into the Police secondary schools across the country. He advised affected parents and students to check at Police Headquarters Nationwide and the office of the Force Education Officer 5th floor Force Headquarters Abuja.
Also on today’s package the general public was openly invited to the farewell parade in honour of the former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro which comes up on the 28th august 2009 at the Eagle Square Abuja at 10am.
During the programme, the PPRO Anambra State called in to refute the report on the Network news that the police in Anambra, Akwa precisely did not respond to the attack on a bank by armed robbers.
He said the police was prompt in dislodging the armed bandits.

News/Update for Police Diary 20/08/09
Today’s package started with the news from the Force Headquarters that the IG is in Maiduguri to see the officers and men of the force and to encourage them to keep up the good work.
The IG of Police will also visit the Police academy in Kano.
Also the common entrance examination to Police Secondary School has been released and parents have been urged to check at all Police Command Headquarters.
The Police Secondary Schools are at Minna, Shanumi, Cross River, prospective candidates can also check at Police Force Education Schools Inspectorate Headquarters as well as Police Children Schools nationwide or at the Office of the Force Education Officer 5th floor headquarters Abuja.
Next on the programme were text messages and the responses from the Deputy Force PRO Yemi Ajayi who was the guest.
A text on pension payment that was sent in, the Deputy FPRO urged the sender to listen to Police Diary as the Commissioner in charge of pensions will soon be on the Programme.
Another text message was about whether a motorist can be punished for licensing offence, the DFPRO said no, but if the mistake is genuine.
A concerned Nigerian also sent a text to know where investigation has reached as regards to the missing Corper in Ekiti State, the DFPRO said investigation was still going on.
He phone lines were open and calls came in from Owerri, Lagos and Kaduna.
The FCT PRO Jimoh Moshod now called to respond to a text from Airport Abuja on robbery attack, he told the complainant that the robbers have been caught and will soon be arraigned in court.

Police Diary 18/08/09
Toady, Police diary began with news from the force headquarters.
The news started on a sad note with the FPRO informing listeners about the death of the Bayelsa State PPRO.
The FPRO also noted that 245 other police officers had died in various circumstances in the last few months.
Next on the news was the arrest of five thieves at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport after stealing 210,000 Dollars from the boot of a car.
Furthermore in the programme the PPRO’s from Anambra, Enugu called in to give follow ups on cases in their States.\according to the PPRO Anambra, popular Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has regained freedom.
On a final note on the programme the FPRO invited listeners to the farewell parade for the former Inspector General of Police, Sir Mike M. Okiro on the 28th of August at the Eagle Square.

Police diary update 14th July 2009
Police diary for the 14th of July 2009 kicked off at exactly 8.30 am, with police news which was just on a new magazine produced by a patriotic Nigerian.
Messages were taken and subsequently, the FPRO gave out operation numbers for some states.
The phone lines were opened. A caller from Niger state reported that his brother, Innocent Onuigbo was shot dead sometime in March this year. The caller Mr. Patrick Onuigbo said that the matter was reported Gwagwa Police station. The FPRO Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu promised that the case will be investigated.

Police diary 15th June 2009
Thank you for keeping a date with us today on the programme.
Today’s package dealt with a past caller’s grouse with road worthiness, the air was cleared by the DSP Ewoh Ukpeni Richard a lawyer in the force .He empasised that the federal law supersedes the state law and in a case where there was a conflict between the two laws the federal law takes precedence.
The news from the Force Headquarters will brighten the face of the retirees from the force, as a retreat is being arranged for them and also preparation for the IG’S book launch.
The phone lines were opened and the FPRO responded to questions raised by callers, text messages were also taken.

Police diary update 11th June 2009-06-11
It’s a beautiful Thursday and as usual a pleasure to update your diary .Today on police diary, the FPRO revealed that the National Association of Nigerian Students are planning to go on strike next week.
The FPRO used the programme to call on Nigerian Students to come forward for dialogue to avoid disturbance of their academic calendar.
The FPRO also told listeners that the Inspector General of police has written a book on Policing Nigeria in a Democracy. He stated that the book will be launched soon.
There were follow ups on the pending cases. Text messages on whether the police had the right to check road worthiness ,this led to a discussion amongst callers one Mr Yomi Bamigbse VIO official from Ogun who stated their own edicts on particulars to check ,while the chairman Police People Relations community called in from Imo State to Counter that ,citing the fact that it might affect motorists across the country ,if each state had its own edicts ,rather the set particulars to check given by the IGP should be followed .
Abdullahi Jugunu who was the first caller suggested that police numbers should be displayed in strategic positions to help Nigerians in emergency situation.

Police Diary Update 09/06/09
Today’s package featured prominently the case of jungle justice in Amuri community of Enugu State. Several petitions had been written to police diary from victims and indigenes of Amuri.
Emmanuel Ojukwu, Force PRO was on hand to answer callers questions. The Nigerian police is of the opinion however that this is purely a communal matter and the people should resolve their differences themselves amicably because in law there cannot be proof of using diabolical means to execute justice.
When the telephone lines were opened, some of those that were accused called in.

Police diary Update 17th March
Police news started the programme for the day, the police will be launching a news paper soon and these news papers will be very detailed and informative.
Also awards were given to one DIG and 18 AIG, 16 Commissioners for long service in the force.
Pending cases were taken, the first was the case of the phone bought by Idris Yayaya, who was arrested on the premise that he stole the phone, the case is undergoing investigation, and listeners would be informed.
The Focus today was on prosecution, the force PRO stated that the Attorney general of the federation has the right to prosecute.
The phone lines were open; the first call came from Charles Orakwe who called in from Lagos to commend the efforts of police diary and the commissioner of police Ondo state for his assistance.
Sunday Ogah called to find out when the result of cadet inspectors would be released, the FPRO replied that as soon as the Police College is opened the result will be released.

POLICE DIARY, MARCH 10TH,2009
The news from the force headquarters Luis Edet house was that there is going to be a joint review of appeals of rationalized officers.
The police service commission and senior officers will go to 12 zones from the 16th -20th of March, the next batch will be between the 20th -24th of April.
Pending cases were now taken; the case of the missing Police Officer who went missing in the 70’s is still under investigation as there is no news on that yet.
The extortion going on along the Zango Kataf road has been referred to the Kaduna command and listeners will be informed soon.
An email was sent concerning delayed in promotion, the FFPRO said the case will be treated individually. Officers with such complain should take their complain to their superior officers with proper evidence and it will be investigated from there.
The missing corper case is still undergoing investigation and nothing new yet.
Emmanuel who sent a mail concerning his brother’s pension, the FPRO advised Emmanuel to go to Uyo were his brother served last and submit the details of his brother’s pension .
Another was E- payment delaying the salary of some officers; the FPRO told those involved to be patient as the problem is from two targets handling their funds.
The phone lines were now opened, Jay Jay Andrew from Niger, in respect of one inspector Barnabas and he was asked to send an email with the details however he said he had already sent one.
Churchill from Lagos wanted to know if the police, the army were all members of the Armed forces; the FPRO said they are all security agents.
Tajudeen called from Ekiti and he wanted to know the fate of retired officers in relation to their pension, the FPRO said each case will be dealt with according to his merit.
Barnabas whop called from Lagos, sought to know if an officer can enter a commercial vehicle armed.
The FPRO said the gun is not contagious and officers are trained to use arms and in a situation were the gun goes off, the officer will be dealt with.
Another email was taken and this one was on the police as public servants the FPRO said if the police are properly motivated they will serve the public better.
An email on murder was mentioned and it will be completed on Thursday.

Police Diary update for 3rd March 2009
Today on police dairy the FPRO informed listeners of the gesture the police received from an IT organsation, they received ICT equipment such as computers and other items.
The focus today was on Bail and Detention
Listeners were educated on the fact that detention is the restriction of movement although food will be provided for the detainee.
The FPRO said that the issue of bail still maintained that bail is free.
He said that a householder or reasonable person of substance can stand as surety.
He noted the only exception to bail is that if the surety fails to produce the suspect on demand he/she will be arrested.
He received a question whether women can be bailed; he answered yes, that the constitution did not place any restrictions on women bailing as long as the woman meets the requirements.
Some emails were taken one from Obochi Samuel on monthly pension the FPRO said such matters are been looked into.
A text on extortion along Aba-Ogbor hill –Ikot Ekepene sent in by Gideon Nwogu the FPRO said he is sure the CP Abia and PPRO are listening and the matter will be looked into.
while the programme was on, the FCT PPRO called in to inform listeners of one Sani Umaru who had been parading himself as an honorable, he advised Nigerians to be aware of who the collect complimentary cards or flyers from because most of them are poisonous.
He then briefed listeners on the latest on Suleiman Adejoh and CSP Njoku’s case he said, that the case has been handled amicably as the complainant could not substantiate his complain on assault thus they were both warned ,the ACP CID Abuja command handled the case.
Suleiman Adejoh called in and affirmed that he was satisfied by the way the matter handled.
Calls were taken Abdullahi Jugunu called in from OYO and said they were no checkpoints along the road and the Force PRO said the police no longer have road blocks but nipping points.
Ibrahim who called from Abuja had a long petition and he was asked to bring his petition to the producer in Radio House.
Festus Okolo called from Ebonyi and he wanted to know who to report to if money is asked for bail, the FPRO said either you report to the DPO or a superior.

Police diary, 26th Feb
Today’s package kicked of with FPRO saying officers and men of the Nigerian police are in high spirits, then the text messages, all they were about 8 text messages and they were all treated and responded to, the text on bail were the sender complained about him paying bail of 4,000 naira the FPRO emphasis the fact that bail is free.
He also said police men are mandated to go for training, as regards the right of the police towing vehicle he said the police had the right.
They were also email on a murder case, in the course of the programme the F.C.T PPRO called to brief listeners on the latest on ADEJOH SULEIMAN’S case as well as the text on police in Lugbe who collect money from laborers, he said Suleiman’s case is in top gear as both he and the CSP were interviewed by an CP assistant commissioner of police. While most of those claiming to be laborers were robbers however promise to keep listeners informed.
The FPRO also informed listeners that he has established contact with Susan Udeh and her father and efforts are been made to rehabilitate her through the cross rivers police command.

Police diary, 19th Feb 2009
The programme kicked off with police news, the FPRO who was absent due to a meeting of Commissioners of police and above taken place in OYO state.
The major news from force headquarters was that 7 policemen were dismissed from the force for trying to instigate a strike.
After the news the discussion of power to arrest was concluded with more light shed on arrest by Proxy.
The FPRO said facts have to be established before such an arrest can be made.
Follows ups were now taken, PPRO F.C.T called in to inform listeners that Mr. Adejo the complainant and CSP Njoku have been requested to appear before the F.C.T commissioner for interview.
PPRO Cross/rivers also called in respect of Susan Udeh, s case and he said they are waiting for her to come forward so she can be compensated.
Text messages were taken, the first text came from Sunday Okoh wanting to know why 3months salary of officers called back had not been paid the AFPRO replied that the IGP had instructed that all such payments should be made.
Corporal Wisdom Eze sent in a text suggesting ways of remembering Nigerian policemen who are fallen heros.,the FPRO asked that Wisdom forward his proposal to the IGP’s office.
Steve Abeke sent in a text concerning cultism in secondary schools in delta, he was told to take such report to the Delta state command.
Olajide Adedeji sought to know if accidental discharge was legal, the AFPRO told listeners that there was nothing like that in the police act rather it’s a case of misuse of firearm.
Calls came in fro Lagos and Rivers state.
The security tip for today is ignore all calls or text messages asking for money or threats.

Update for 17th Feb 2009
Police dairy started on a bright note with police news from the Force Headquarters .the FPRO informed listeners that the Italian and Nigerian police signed a memorandum of association.
Pending cases
The Okene /FCT highway robbery case that was reported by one Solomon Akuboh, the update on this is that the passengers were rescued however the robbers were not arrested.
Meanwhile the FPRO Enugu called in to respond to Stan Okeke’s complaint about mobile policemen who escaped armed robbers.
He said Mr. Stan came to him and in turn asked the complainant to come forward with names of the people concerned, in the course of the programme Mr. Stan Okeke called in to refute the PPRO Enugu’s claim that he has never seen him before.
Chuks who called in from Ibadan on behalf of his mother who had an accident while on duty as a police woman inspector .The FPRO enlightened listeners of the fact that the police woman did not forward her papers in time and she just did that on the 13th of this month and its receiving attention..
Some text messages were taken and the focus for today was on, when arrest can be made, the presenter sought to know if a police man can arrest without a warrant and his yes depends on the circumstances.
Also, it was made known that arrest cannot be done by proxy it’s not allowed nor approved, finally Suleiman Adejo’s case of assault by a Police Officer CSP Henry Njoku, who was invited into the studio.
Due to the follow ups and other pending issues could not be taken.

POLICE DIARY January 29th, 2009.
The Force PRO, ACP Emmanuel Ojukwu and Austin Iwah, the Coordinator, Community Policing opened the diary today.
Relating news from the Force Headquarters, the FPRO stated that the Nigeria Police Force does not recognize the petition filed by a body known as “Association of Police Officers” insisting that they are illegal. In his words, ‘they are faceless! They don’t exist!’ he further decried the use of The Nigeria Police Force Logo for advertorials on condoms cautioning that it may turn to be a source of ridicule to the Force.
Reacting to the pending cases, the FPRO said that the Force will soon investigate the issue of extortion reported by Fadikpe. He also asked Nathaniel from Lagos to forward details of his complaint to enable the Police Force investigate the matter.
Austin Iwah gave a treatise on the essentials of Community Policing. According to him, the masses belong to the first line of security while the police belong to the second line.
Corporal James called in from Aboekuta to complain of promotion. Ahmed called in from Abuja to highlight the issue of the discharge of officers without discharge certificates, while Mr. Maxwell called in from Lagos to lament the use of Police Force Logo for condom advertorials. The FPRO reacted to all of these.
As a concluding remark, the presenter encouraged Nigerians to note the saying that ‘he who gives money to the police officer is a fool while the officer is wise’.

POLICE DIARY January 27, 2009.
Today’s episode of Police Diary was attended by the Force PRO, ACP Emmanuel Ojukwu and Zamfara State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Abubakar.
The CP stated that the State Police is actively engaged in community policing engaging the major stakeholders in the security sector of the state, emphasizing that they enjoy good working relationship with the State Governor who just donated fifty-five (55) operational vehicles to the State Police Command.
He further mentioned that one of the major security challenges facing Zamfara state is her trans-boarder relations with Niger Republic. According to him, there was a recent clash with armed robbers from Niger Republic during which the State Police command arrested some of the robbers. He equally informed the public that other challenges faced by the State Command are the problem of logistics and bad roads.
Callers were quick to respond to the program. Kola called in from Lagos to request for final interview result for ASP/Cadet. Fadikpe from Ogun State called in to complain of road blockage and extortion by the police officers patrolling between Ore and Edo command. Nathaniel Okon also called in to express his displeasure at the treatment meted to his father, Okon Udeme who was involved in an accident while on active duty and requested for the payment of his gratuity.
The FCT PPRO then called in to clarify the impression that there are police officers who hide under the umbrella of the force to rob well meaning citizens. According to him, the robbers are not police officers but miscreants who put on black clothes in an attempt to rubbish the image of the Police Force. He called on Nigerians to assist the Police by supplying information which will enable the apprehension of the criminals.
After reacting to the issues raised by the callers, the FPRO assured Police Officers in the Federation that the IG, Mike Okiro was committed to their welfare. As his parting words, he encouraged Nigerians to have faith in the Nigeria Police.

POLICE DIARY January 22, 2009.
Police Diary today was opened by the Force PRO, ACP Emmanuel Ojukwu who let us know that the IG attended a conference in Gusau. The presenter read letters and text messages from Nigerians who wrote in to either place a request or lodge complaints. Uche from Lagos was one of them. He wrote to complain of extortion and enjoined the Force PRO to do something about it.
Police Diary fans rolled in their calls. Peter from Abuja called in to complain of extortion around the Wuse area in Abuja. The Force PRO promised to investigate the complaint. Goodson from Lagos called in to request for police call numbers while Biodun from Abuja called in to commend the police officers patrolling the zone 5 area of Abuja.
The Force PRO enjoined Nigerians to build up their faith in the Police Force, stressing that these police officers are their own sons and daughters. While commending the efforts of Radio Nigeria, he encouraged everyone channel all complaints to the nearest police station so that the police can establish enough evidence to expedite action.

POLICE DIARY January 20, 2009.
We received the Deputy Force PRO, CSP Yemi Ajayi in our studio today.
Releasing news from the Force Headquarters, he informed us that the Post-blast Cost, an anti-terrorist squad initiative being executed by the Metropolitan Police will soon come to an end. He equally noted that the IG relieved 33 police officers of their duties for their blatant refusal to attend the course.
Joseph Kole wrote in to complain about pension areas. He was asked to exercise a little patience as pension matters were still being sorted out. Inspector Emma Mbugudu wrote in to request for assistance as he lost his eyes in active service and up till now has not received any insurance or assurance of assistance. The DFPRO asked him to come for personal attention.
Callers were quick to respond to the programme. Mr. Moses called in from Area 10, Abuja to comment on Road Blocks. In his own view, road blocks should not be dismantled completely. Nathaniel called in from Lagos to lay a complaint about his friend that was retrenched. The presenter asked him to make the complaint valid by getting the Force number of the friend in question across to Police Diary.
Other issues raised by the callers are the use of horse whips by Police officers to bully citizens and the use of knives to puncture vehicle tyres at will. Reacting to these, the Deputy Force PRO denied that Nigeria Police of this era applies this form of brutal policing stressing that his men are civilized.
As usual, there were security Tips from the Deputy Force PRO. Some of them include:
- Don’t stop to pick things on the way as hoodlums may station packaged materials as baits to catch prospective victims.
- Even when one comes across animals like bush animals lying on the road, one should ignore these and move on.
