ON POLICE DIARY

11th of December 2008

Hi, today on police diary, we had the FPRO as the sole guest. We started with a bit of news from the force headquarters and these included the sad news of
the death of the PSO 2 to the Inspector General of police, who died over the weekend.

Thereafter, we went to other issues. According to the FPRO, the case of police officers who collected money from some people in order to help them get employed by the Police but failed to do that, has been handed
over to the CP Kaduna Command for further action.

He promised to inform us of the outcome of the investigation. Calls came from Nigerians on varied issues which were attended to by the FPRO. The issues range from police uniforms to police conduct on our highways.

Please I would love to hear from you regarding the manner the presenter handles the programme. Your contribution will be of immense help to him.

Expecting to hear from you........Kelvin Ugwu.

4TH OF DECEMBER 2008

Today on Police Diary, we had the presence of the CP of Kebbi State Mr.

MUKTAR IBRAHIM. The FORCE PRO too was part of the programme. I started with a reaction from Love Oladele who wrote to commend CP BOMA who featured on the programme some time ago.

The commendation was inspired by the pro-active measures taken by the CP to check the excesses of unemployed youths in Katsina State.

Then we moved on to what’s new at the Force Headquarters. The Force PRO informed us among others that the Inspector General of Police is billed to receive an award from the YITZAK RABIN Centre today.

Also, the he told us that POLICE OFFICERS WIVES ASSOCIATION (POWA) has been registered as an NGO. Thereafter, focus shifted to the CP Kebbi State who presented a picture of as quiet although he acknowledged that there are few cases of crime in the State.

Infant the report sheet he came with showed that the command recorded only 19 cases of serious crime in the State between January and November this year.

We also got a call from one Mr. Koko who highly commended the CP for what he is doing in the State. According to the caller, the CP is always seen patrolling the State to ensure that all is well in the State.

We also discussed other issues like transborder crime, Police/community relationship etc. Did you listen? Do you have any contribution to make? Please I would love to hear from you. So let’s talk.

Another edition of Police Diary has come and gone. Today we had a special guest, Mr. Onwuka, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kastina State.

An amiable personality who cautiously and diplomatically provided answers to questions on transborder crime, incidences of child trafficking, community policing and security in Kastina generally.

Given the fact that Katsina State is the President's State, I tried to find out from Mr Onwuka if this puts him under pressure. what is the impact of this on policing Katsina State? Do they get any special treatment?

All these questions were cautiously addressed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

He also has a warm sense of humour, which he showed when he observed that I was spotting a blue long sleeve shirt on black pant or trousers, as you can see in the picture.

He actually shook hands with me and said: Congrats! “For having Police uniform on without a Police rank”. That’s his nature because all through the programme he joked vivaciously, contrary to what one CP once told me, that Police Officers do not smile.

Generally, the programme had a deluge of calls and few SMS. Please let me know what you think about the programme by sending an e-mail tobbr@radionigeria.net or giftproduction@yahoo.com

Kelvin Ugwu's Profile

Hi, my name is Kelvin Ugwu. I am the presenter of Police Diary which is broadcast Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8.30 am on the Network service of Radio Nigeria…..The Largest Network in Africa.

This blog brings you updates on all that happen on the programme & a lot do happen. However, today, I just want to tell you a few things about me….The Presenter. I started my career in broadcasting in 1988, as a guest presenter with the old Anambra State Broadcasting Service Fm Radio [ABS 3 FM STEREO] in the South East of Nigeria.

The station later became Enugu state Broadcasting service [ESBS]. In 2004.I joined the Abuja National station of Radio Nigeria and was subsequently posted to Kapital Fm in the Federal Capital Territory [FCT] of Nigeria.

In January 2007, I was chosen to present Police Diary on the Network service of Radio Nigeria. Hitherto, the programme used to run on Kapital Fm on Wednesday morning. Since then, except during my Annual leave in 2006, I have been the regular host of the programme. I must confess that the programme has given me an insight into the structure, operations and state of the Nigeria Police.

Let me just say that I am now better positioned to see what the officers & men of the force see and to also feel what they feel. You shall get to know a lot about the Nigeria police through this program and I enjoin you to be a part of this effort to build a more people -friendly Police Force by contributing to the program and keeping a diary of police activities in your Neighbourhood.

Till next week when I will start to share with you all that happen on the programmme and the challenges we encounter on the programme……..Be security conscious. KELVIN.
